"Uncle Sam Worked Here" Fall Lecture Series

October 23rd, November 6th and November 23rd

 


Saint Paul, MN - The "Uncle Sam Worked Here" lecture series returns to Landmark Center this fall with three Saturday programs focused on "Landmarks in the Law." The programs will examine labor, free speech and anti-trust activities that were addressed by the U.S. District Court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and which influenced the course of law during the 20ths century. Landmark cases and societal occurences pertaining to each of these three topic areas will be discussed.

Each morning begins with a guided tour of the "Uncle Sam Worked Here" exhibit in Landmark Center, beginning at 9:30 am, departing from the Visitor Information Center located on the first floor of Landmark Center. Complimentary refreshments will be served at 10:30 am, followed by the keynote address at 10:45am in one of Landmark Center’s historic courtrooms.   The programs are free but require a reservation.

Saturday, November 6th:  Professor Thomas F. Cotter, University of Minnesota School of Law, "20th Century Antitrust Cases: Ensuring Fair Business Competition through the Law"

 

Saturday, November 20th:  Professor Hy Berman, Department of History, Unversity of Minnesota, "Rights for the Workers: Labor Law during the 20th Century"

 

The falls series is co-sponsored by the Federal Bar Association - Minnesota Chapter and the Minnesota State Bar Foundation. Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit has been applied for each of the programs. The “Uncle Sam Worked Here” exhibit is open during building hours.
